Vilmos Csikos wins the Primuz International String competition 2021 with his virtuosic performance of Paganini’s, Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento (Op. 38). With entrants from over 30 countries and competing against some extremely tough competition, Vilmos was selected as the outright winner for violin in the seniors competition (ie for violinists born before 1999).
The Primuz International String competition 2021 was organized during the Covid-19 pandemic by requesting each contestant to send in videos of their performances. Recorded at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, Vilmos’ choice Paganini Op. 38 (among other pieces) was an inspired gamble, in as much that it is technically extremely complex (with the violinist required to pluck a string accompaniment while bowing at the same time)!
“I am extremely happy with this win” Vilmos told Harley Lovegrove, especially bearing in mind the standard of my competitors, some of them whom I have known in other competitions.
Next on Vilmos’ YBT agenda is to record a CD of music by Henri Vieuxtemps for the NAXOS label, together with the Belgian pianist Marie Francois.
